It played a pivotal role when Denpasar transitioned from being a district within the Badung Regency to attaining the status of an administrative city in 1978.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">On February 27, 1992, Denpasar elevated its position to that of an independent city, equivalent to a regency. To manage the city's administrative tasks, the Denpasar Mayor's Office was established at its present location. Interestingly, this office was previously situated in Jro Anyar, the former residence of the king of Badung during the monarchical era.<\/p>\n<p>The aftermath of the Puputan Badung War on September 20, 1906, which led to the downfall of the Badung Kingdom, saw the Dutch colonial government reorganizing the area surrounding Puri Denpasar. They transformed Jro Anyar into the office of the controller\u2014an official who worked under the assistant resident and resided close by.
